On Friday 3 May we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Gardiners Run course, most fittingly in the function room at Gardiners Run.
Almost 100 members and guests enjoyed a most enjoyable evening. Former Chirnside Park Country Club President, Bruce Bower, who hit the opening shot on the first tee 10 years ago, spoke with obvious warmth and passion about the history of the club and the “trials and tribulations” endured by the Board and Management over many years prior to the development of the course.
His recollections, enhanced by the pictorial history projected on the screens behind him, highlighted how far we have come in a relatively short time.
Also sharing some of his journey with Gardiners Run was Phil Ryan from Pacific Coast Design, who with business partner Paul Reeves designed and supervised the construction of the course. They continue to provide great support to our club and are regular visitors and Life Members, despite their busy lives as active course designers in Australia and Asia.
In closing his speech Phil volunteered that he intends to go better than Life Member and become an Eternal Member – by noting in his will that his ashes are to be scattered around the 5th tee box.
