Ladies Golf Update – October 2024

Ladies Golf Update – October 2024

October has been a super-charged month, signified by many lovely scores as we welcome the pleasant and more golf-friendly weather.

The Ladies’ group set off October on a double-barrelled first Tuesday, with Alana Killen, our esteemed CPCC President, winning the October Monthly Medal by a clear 2 shots. The same day, Lorna Leo came through to win the 2024 Ladies’ Spring Cup, 3 shots ahead of both Alana Killen and Sue Pearson.  Congratulations to you both!

Ladies’ Guest Day saw us welcome a small, but keen number of guests to join us in a 4BBB Stableford Pairs event. Suzette Vergeer and Sue Pearson won the Pairs event by a 2-shot margin on 45 points, with the top-placed Pair including a guest – Lyn Richardson and her guest, Faye Barnett – with 42 C/B. The NTPs featured 2 guests (and member Davia Jorgensen – well done!) and we enjoyed a straightest drive competition on the 8th hole.

The now-keenly-sought-after Grandmother’s Trophy was our next well-attended event. It was hotly contested between Karen Meeuwissen and Denise Yule, who both scored an impressive 42 Stableford points! Karen won on a countback and is now the proud ‘owner-for-a-year’ of the special trophy, made by Richard Gridley. Hopefully she has found a prime spot to display this at home!

Another favourite October event, the Pink Ball Challenge, was next in line. We run this as a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Australia, and we are very proud to announce that we collected just over $300 on donations and the ladies’ ‘special fines’ alone!

Well done to the team of Therese Vawser, Dot Stephens, Brenda Henderson and Lisa den Elzen for winning the day with 72 pink ball points! The Individual score winner for the day was Denise Yule, with a remarkable 43 points!

October saw Gardiners Run being represented by a few ladies at different events around and about:

  • Golf Australia Annual Presidents’ and Captains’ Day @ Heritage Country Club – Alana Killen and Lynette Richardson represented our Club.
  • GMA (Golf Management Australia) Annual GM and Presidents’ Day @ Latrobe Golf Club – Narelle Messerle, Dean Trobbiani and Ray Seddon represented the club. (Narelle won the ladies longest drive & Dean a NTP!)
  • Golf Australia Doris Chambers Foursomes State Final @ Eastern Golf Club – Pam Boulton and Lynette Richardson qualified for this way back in mid-April.

We finished the month off with a Par off the Gold tees competition, which was won in fine fashion by Sharon Moore with the most remarkable score of +8!! Celebrations continued well into the afternoon as we enjoyed our second Golf Rules session with Stuart McPhee. He took us outside to the surrounds of the 18th Green, which proved very useful in terms of situations requiring taking relief (especially from the path/unplayable lies behind trees). Thank you, Stuart, for another inspiring session.

I have to include congratulations to our ladies’ cohort for acquitting themselves exceptionally well in the Seniors’ Competitions this month, starting with Alla Mayer winning the Seniors’ October Monthly Medal! Keep up your great playing, ladies!

Also, another special mention must be made of Seniors’ Matchplay, as I believe we are about to witness a Club Record: husband-and-wife Gill and John Donald won their respective Seniors’ match play Semi-Finals to now face each other off in the Grand Final! Watch this space!
